What is a FlipBook?

'FlipBook' is a term coined to describe digital publications created with our Digital Flip® technology. It features an impressive 3D Page-Flipping interface (simulating the reading experience of paper-based publications), and is capable of integrating multimedia contents such as video, audio, animations, and images.

Hardcopy and digital publications of magazines, newsletters, novels, textbooks, catalogs, brochures, portfolios, company manuals, financial reports and more can be created as a FlipBook.

FlipBooks can be created using FlipBook™ Creator, Manual Coding or Server Generated Scripts. FlipBooks are based on the OPF format, which is essentially an xml-based ebook format created by E-Book Systems - to enable the viewing software (such as FlipViewer®, FlipViewer® Xpress and Mac FlipViewer® ) to present a book in a 3D page flipping format.

FlipBook™ Creator : A professional authoring software (client-side software) that creates FlipBooks in OpenFlip™ format for viewing in FlipViewer®.

Manual Coding : FlipBooks can be created with manual coding via a text editor, without the need of client side software.

Server Generated : Server-side scripts, CGI, etc ca be used to generate FlipBooks on the fly from a database.

What is FlipViewer®?

FlipViewer® is the viewing software for FlipBooks, and as such, is required to view or read a FlipBook.

FlipViewer® is available for use with PCs, MACs and standard browsers. FlipViewer® is the installation based version for PCs. Mac FlipViewer® is the installation based version for MACs, and FlipViewer® Xpress is the browser based version for standard browsers.

Page Flipping, Page Streaming, Book Paradigm, Multimedia Files Support, and Web-Enabled are terms associated with FlipViewer®. How so? FlipViewer® lets you view print publications in a 3D page flipping interface, where pages are displayed like those in a real book. As the initial pages of the book are opened, the remaining pages of the book are being streamed into your PC to allow for quicker loading time per page. Page streaming allows pages to be available for immediate reading, without having to wait for the entire book to be first downloaded. Staying true to the book paradigm, the displayed thickness of the book in FlipViewer® is indicative of the number of pages in the book, allowing you to "thumb" through the book with your mouse or use the page number cues.

FlipViewer® is capable of incorporating a combination of text, images, animation, sounds, and video into a single media-rich document, which can be read like any printed publication.

DRM solution is a server-side software that controls readers access rights (including number of copies, screen capture, savings rights, time-limited access, etc).

Flip Analyzer™ : Server-side software that tracks readers' usage of your FlipBooks, such as the sequence of pages viewed, time spent on ad impressions displayed on pages etc. Reports can be generated to help you manage the effectiveness of your FlipBook content distribution strategy.
